Pure Core: Administration

Authentication enforcement of case-insensitive usernames

Since version 5.30, all login mechanisms have used case-insensitive username lookups. While this is standard industry behavior, it has caused login issues for an extremely small number of customers who have multiple users with the same username but with different capitalization.

To address this, we’ve introduced a constraint that prevents the creation of users with duplicate usernames. This constraint is only applied for customers without existing duplicates. For those affected by duplicate usernames, the duplicates will appear in the job log for the "Enforce Username Lower Case Constraint" job. I.e. it is only if you have this job running after installing 5.31.3 that you have an issue.

To resolve duplicates, locate the affected users by using the username or ID from the job log output, and update one or more user to have a unique username. See the following image for an example of how a duplicate username could look like:

The job will run daily and check for any remaining duplicates and give you an updated list of users with duplicate usernames and their IDs. Once all the duplicates are resolved, the job will automatically apply the constraint, ensuring no further duplicates can be created and the job will no longer run:

Integrations:

Deprecation of WorldCat as import source

As previously announced, WorldCat's current API will be deprecated by January 1st, 2025. After careful consideration, we have decided not to update our connection to WorldCat.

From January 1st, it was no longer possible to import publications from WorldCat

From version 5.31.3 WorldCat has been removed from the Pure interface

Copyright statement

Following customer feedback, the copyright statement displayed in the Pure Portal and now on the main screens of Pure Core, has now been updated to be less ambiguous and ensure that correct open access terms are referenced at all times.

The new copyright statement is as follows:

“All content on this site: Copyright © [year] [customer name], its licensors, and contributors. All rights are reserved, including those for text and data mining, AI training, and similar technologies. For all open access content, the relevant licensing terms apply.”

Pure Portal

Please note that your Pure Portal footer note uses the customer name as defined for the Portal in the configuration Administrator > Pure Portal > Styling and Layout > Customer Name

Pure Core

The copyright statement can be accessed by clicking on the Help and Support button in the header. The institution name to be displayed in the copyright statement can be configured to suit your institution's needs. The value can be modified by editing the appropriate text resource:

Administrator > Messages and text resources > Text resources then modify the value associated with workspace.copyright.institution.name.
