Pure Core: Administration
Exclusively external affiliations functionality extended to more content types
In support of capturing content created outside your institution, Pure now supports the use of exclusively external affiliations on the Courses content type. Researchers can now add courses created by themselves in other contexts and showcase these in reporting or the Pure portal.
For a full listing of supported content types, please consult Content Types that allows only external affiliation registration for more information.
Author collaboration conversion tool for datasets
Author collaboration functionality on Datasets was introduced in 5.33.0 . For customers with large numbers of contributors ("hyperauthorship") but no author collaborations on datasets, we have introduced functionality to reduce the number of total contributors and create a placeholder author collaboration. This greatly improves the performance of Pure's reporting and showcasing functionalities and makes it easier to manage contributor lists for instititutions.
The functionality detailed further in the Author Collaborations
Portrait image type as default selection for profile photos on Person
When adding an image to a person profile, the default image type is now selected as Portrait. This reduces concerns from institutions that profile photos added by users weren't displayed on their Portal profiles.
Pure API
We're excited to announce the latest enhancement to the Pure API, where we added the missing relations to other content on Equipment and Press Media

Integrations
PRS delete strategy
The PRS (QABO) jobs now run as a synchronization process. This means that if publications previously imported into Pure are later removed from the QABO workspace, those publications will also be removed from Pure. This behavior ensures that Pure remains fully synchronized with the QABO workspace and Scopus data.
Publications may be removed from the workspace for various reasons, such as incorrect assignment to a profiled author or removal from Scopus. The QABO job will automatically reflect these changes to maintain data consistency between Pure and Scopus.
In this release, we have introduced a new setting in the QABO Publication Import job that prevents publications from being deleted automatically. When this setting is enabled, publications that would otherwise be marked for deletion can be moved to a specified workflow step instead, allowing you to locate and manually review these records for further action.

In the job log, you will be able to locate publications that otherwise would have been deleted. And in the job log summary (last page in the job log) you will be able to see how many would have been deleted

Note
Please note that enabling the new setting to prevent automatic deletion of publications will cause Pure and Scopus to become unsynchronized. As a result, you may observe differences such as discrepancies in researchers’ publication counts between Pure and Scopus, potential duplicate publication records, and temporary inconsistencies in citation counts. It is important to weigh these consequences when deciding to activate this setting.
Reporting
Student projects
We have enabled reporting on student projects. This is for the Danish customers. With this release it is now possible to report on student projects such as detailed information about the student projects and how they related to organizations and persons etc.
Events
We have updated the reporting on Event to include much more of the available information on event as shown on the image.

Classifications
It is now possible to report on classifications, you can use these as driver to see which classification are most used. For now it is possible to create relations to Research outputs, Activities, and Press/media with more content types being added later.

REF
Open Access
We have updated Pure's REF open access logic to include the second phase of compliance called REF 2029 OA Policy, which is coming in effect from 1st of January 2026.
We are now showing if the output is in-scope for open access. If the output is in-scope, then we proceed to calculate the open access status, if some information is missing we're going to show what is missing, to help understand what needs to be done with the output, before Pure is able to calculate the Open access status. As an example:

As per the requirements, we have also introduced a configuration for deposit requirement. The guidance state that an output must be deposited within three months of publication, but as per section 7.2.4, it is possible for institutions to continue to use the acceptance date if they have an already established practice. To facilitate this, we will introduce a configuration option to decide if the deposit criteria should look at acceptance or publication date. The default will be the publication date.
Exception handling
To update the experience, we have updated how to set an exception. We want to make it clearer to see if an exception has been set, or whether one is pending. To achieve this, we've updated the UI for the exceptions, this removes the need to have the exceptions: No exception and Not set decision, these could cause confusion, now it is needed to explicitly choose if no exception applies, or if a decision on the applicable exception is pending.

Read more about the full OA logic on this page REF 2029 Open Access policy in Pure.
