How Can We Help?
Master Data XMLMaster Data XML
These content types are the key building blocks for working in Pure. Having high quality data of your organisational structure and the relationships that your staff and students have to this structure are key to a successful Pure implementation. We recommended starting with Organisational Units and then Persons before loading any other data in Pure. If you are wanting to create Users related to Person records these will need to be imported before the Person xml is imported
In most XML imports you can simply provide names for external organisations and persons and Pure will attempt to match to existing records. If these aren't found they will be created automatically. This can be very useful, but if you have more specific information you wish to record against these records you may wish to import them first, and then use ID matching in your other import files.
Similarly, journals, events and publishers can be automatically created via research output imports if they don't match to existing records.
For all of these content types there are only a handful of mandatory fields that must be provided and then a wide variety of additional data that may be stored, should you wish. For example, a person needs a name, gender (although "unknown" can be used), an organisational unit they are affiliated to, and a date that they began the affiliation with that organisational unit. In addition to this you can store information of a person's expertise, leaves of absence and home address. Not all of this information may be relevant for you in Pure and may present privacy and ongoing maintenance concerns. To work out what information is needed in Pure will require engagement with the different stakeholders of your system and the broader governance strategies of your organisation around data privacy and integration.
