How Can We Help?
Reporting out of betaReporting out of beta
Update
The reporting module is now official out of beta. We have started working on sunsetting the classic reporting module.
This page describes what is missing before the Reporting module is removed from Beta, what this means for the reporting module. We encourage you to participate in the discussion and development of the reporting module. So if there is something that you feel is missing, and is critical for the reporting module before it can be removed from Beta, please contribute on this page.
Reporting beta
We have identified three phases that we need to complete before the reporting module can be taken out of beta.
Phases
The different phases that we currently have planned are spanning multiple releases. Throughout all phases, we're always looking at the various values that can be reported on, and we are adding more filters and values for each release. We have collected all the Reporting Module-related Release Notes in a single page, where it is easier to see what has changed with which version.
Phase 1 ✅
With this phase, we have introduced global reporting roles for all content types.
These new roles will grant access to the new reporting module, and it will be possible to report on the selected content types, e.g. Global reporter of Research Output. This means that it is now possible to open the new reporting module up for more users so they can start using the new reporting module. Combine these roles to give access to the new reporting module for more users without having to provide editorial rights to users. If the global reporter roles are the only role that a user has, then the user can only see the new reporting tab, and use the new reporting module without being able to see the rest of Pure.
|
This is part of the ongoing development of the new reporting module and we are planning for more changes around the roles in the new reporting module to enable even more fine-tuned access and usage of the new reporting module.
Phase 2 ✅
The second phase is about the ability to report on the organizational hierarchy, such that it is possible to aggregate information such as the number of associated research outputs belonging to a part of the hierarchy.
This means that you are now able to report not only on a single organizational unit, but also on the organizational hierarchy above or below.
You now can:
- do a roll-up of information in a hierarchy
- drill down into a hierarchy
- summarize on each level of a hierarchy
Similarly, when filtering, you can now choose to filter on the selected organizational unit itself, or the entire organizational hierarchy below.
You can access this feature where you normally select your organizational values and filters in a report.
Phase 3 ✅
The third phase is about sharing/scheduling of reports. We're currently looking into how the scheduling of reports will function in the new reporting module. Another big part of phase 3 is local reporting roles, which will enable more granular control of who can report and on which content type. ✅
We will also be looking at missing content types, such as fingerprints, and needed filters with this phase as well as the data stories, where we are going to make it possible to export this as a PDF.
More advanced filtering such as the ability to limit to content that doesn't have the selected items etc.
Timeline
The current timeline for out of beta is June 2024 subject to change, based on feedback and progression.
What will happen when the beta tag is removed
Once we remove the beta tag, we expect there to be one more release cycle to update the module based on feedback of our users. Thereafter we are projecting another year before we will retire the old module. The current expectation is therefore for June 2025 before we retire the old module
Once the reporting module is out of beta, we will continue work on the reporting module, being out of beta means that we deem that the new reporting module would be able to provide the reporting needs you would have, it does not mean that we stop the development of the module. We will continue work on adding values as new ones in being added to Pure, as well as add more filters where these are needed, and new use cases appear.
What about dashboards?
Modules that use the classic reporting such as dashboards, etc/ will still work after we are retiring the classic reporting module. They will keep working until we have built a new version of these features that are using the new reporting module.
Future
After the reporting module is out of beta, we will continue work on the module. Some of the ideas we're having are to build a community where it would be possible to share workspaces based on various topics, such as award management, assessments, etc. We will also continue to improve on the onboarding and help for the reporting module. We're currently working on the reporting home page to improve on how to get started with the reporting module, and the overall help that is available. Furthermore, we will also improve on the UX of the reporting module, so some released features will be improved on when this is needed. We're also going to give the data stories a big overhaul, as this will lead to the future of dashboards in Pure. These are just some of the varied ideas we have for the reporting module.
