Deviating To and From the Master listDeviating To and From the Master list

What

Populating the system with Master data like Persons, Users and Organisations can be done in several ways. The most used ones are Configurable synchronisations, Master list and manual added data.

  • So what happens if you use the Master list to import master data, but have maintained this content manually and then would like to go back to using the Master list?
  • Or what happens when you have manually created and maintained data in Pure, but now want to use the Master list to synchronise this data?

How

Create Persons and Organisations

  • Original creation was with the Master list.
    • You should be able to re-upload this content without duplication; if a profile has a Source ID, it should be able to re-sync to the Master list.
  • Original creation was manual.
    • A duplicate will be created and you will need to merge the two records. Although this content might have the same Person or Organisation ID the Master list synchronisation will create a new Pure ID on the content which will result in the duplicate.

Maintain data on Persons and Organisations

  • Any manually added content on a Person or Organisation could be overwritten. Based on the advanced settings (Bulk import > Master list > Start new Master list import > Advanced settings) the Master list will override fields to match what is on the Master list at the time of the import.
    • You would need to align the data to the Master list or consider to uncheck the fields in the Advanced settings to ensure that it is not synchronised.

Note: It's important to choose one or the other to avoid this type of duplication/overriding of data. We always recommend only using one way of populating this type of data.
