How Can We Help?
Important - changes to Web of Science integrationImportant - changes to Web of Science integration
With the release of Pure 5.25 – scheduled for early October – we introduce a new and improved Web of Science (WoS) integration.
We have updated the integrations to the new WoS Starter and WoS Expanded APIs in view of the retirement of the existing WoS Lite and WoS APIs:
- the WoS Starter API replaces previous Links Article Match Retrieval (Links AMR) Service and WoS API Lite
- the WoS Expanded API replaces Pure's current integration with WoS
With this update, we also improved the integration in Pure to optimize how requests to WoS are made and better handle request quota limits. One of the main changes to the existing integration is how the total and yearly number of citations on publications are retrieved. The new integration will check the WoS Expanded API for updates to content and metrics, limiting the number of requests affecting the yearly API quota.
Required actions
The API change requires that all Pure clients with WoS integration re-configure their credentials and integration setup. You cannot update your Pure with your new credentials until after your Pure instance(s) are on 5.25.0, but we encourage you to prepare the new credentials in advance:
- Reach out to WoS (https://developer.clarivate.com/apis/wos). Follow instructions found in the “Subscription and Access” section.
- Important: When creating the application for API key(s), select client type: Confidential: Server side application, can keep secrets confidential.
- Once you have the new set of credentials, keep them safe until your Pure is on 5.25.0, and then re-configure your Pure WoS integration with your new credentials.
Available options
Web of Science Starter (required) API
If you are currently using the WoS Lite integration you must switch to the Web of Science Starter (required) API. Subscribing to the WoS Starter API allows for the search and import of publications from WoS.
Web of Science Expanded (optional) API
If you are currently using the WoS API you must switch to the Web of Science Expanded (optional) API. Subscribing to the WoS Expanded API enables the import of publications from WoS containing additional metadata, such as affiliations and citations.
It is only possible to enable available updates and import the total number of citations for a record via the WoS Expanded API.
If you have a subscription to WoS Expanded, you can request a WoS Starter API from Clarivate for free.
Further information
More details about the WoS API updates can be found in the Pure 5.25.0 release notes (link will only work after 5.25.0 is released).
Please reach out to Pure Support If you have any questions or concerns related to the WoS API switch.
