How Can We Help?
Datacite as import source (vision)Datacite as import source (vision)
As a consequence of Data Monitor being sunset, we have chosen to further extend our integration with Datacite, to also allow for import of Datasets from the source. This integration is still work on progress, but we hope to have a solution ready by June 2025.
Why Datacite?
Datacite was chosen as we already have a working integration and a good collaboration.
Around 70% of all records in Data Monitor were imported from DataCite
Vision for Datacite integration
We are currently using Datacite for minting DOIs to Datasets and Research outputs. With the expansion of the integration, we will be able to import datasets using these methods:
- Manual import of Dataset records
- Synchronization incl. enhanced import and updates
- For example, manually edited corrections will not be overwritten by future synchronizations
- Automated search on these levels, where Datasets will be presented as candidates for import:
- Organization
- Persons
FAQ:
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Will DataCite cover all the sources that DataMonitor does? | No, there are a number of underlaying sources that are not covered. We estimate that 70% are available in DataCite |
Will institutions be able to find all of their datasets via DataCite integration? |
|
Will Pure import metrics from DataCite | No. Datasets in Pure do currently not support metrics and therefore we will not be pulling these in |
What should clients be aware of regarding dataset matching? | Synchronizations will only store datasets matched by authorized ORCIDs. Unmatched records will require manual handling as candidates for import. |
When will it be available for test? | DataCite will be added to Pure in version 5.33.0, starting with the staging servers and 14 days later production. This period will allow users to test the integration out. |
Will there be any tasks on the client side? | Yes, clients must enable the new integration and select their preferred method for managing import of datasets. |
What do I need to do in preparation of the sunset of DataMonitor | It is important that all Datasets found as import candidates in DataMonitor is imported before either you disable DataMonitor or the sunset of DataMonitor the 30th of June 2025 |
Can I get and indication of how many datasets will be available for my institurion via DataCite?
We cannot guarantee that you will get exactly the precise number - but following this guide will give you some indication on what can be expected
- Access DataCite Commons: https://commons.datacite.org/
- In the search bar fill in:
creators.affiliation.name:”your institution name" OR creators.affiliation.affiliationIdentifier:”http://ror.org/your ror id”
Remember to add all name variants + ROR IDs
Examplecreators.affiliation.name:"Teesside University Business School" OR creators.affiliation.name:"University of Teesside" OR creators.affiliation.name:"Teesside University" OR creators.affiliation.affiliationIdentifier:"https://ror.org/03z28gk75"
- Filter the search result by :
- Registration Agency = Datacite
- Worktype = Datasets”

Pure & Simple: Transitioning from Data Monitor to DataCite Integration
As we prepare for the sunset of DataMonitor, we have carefully selected DataCite as our new import source for datasets. Join us for an informative session where we will share our vision for the integration and how you can best prepare for this transition.
During this webinar, you will learn about:
- The key features and benefits of integrating with DataCite
- The timeline for the transition and what to expect
- Steps you can take to prepare for the sunset of Data Monitor
This is a great opportunity to ask questions and gain insights into the new integration process. We encourage you to join us and be part of this important discussion!
