Getting data into PureGetting data into Pure

Who is this page for?

This page is intended for clients who have recently bought Pure, or a new part of Pure, and are currently or will soon be working on an implementation project with a Pure Implementation Manager. It provides general information that is applicable to all Pures; your Implementation Manager will help you address the details specific to your individual case.

Introduction

There are five categories of options for adding data to Pure, ranging from fully automated to fully manual, and encompassing many possible configurations. Some categories contain multiple methods – for instance, once you have established a connection between your Pure and an online import source like Scopus, you can choose to automatically import Research Outputs based on your researchers’ Scopus author IDs, or to import candidates that you or researchers then approve, or even to manually search Scopus from within Pure and import the metadata from the results list.

Different options are more or less suited to different content types. For instance, many Pure customers use XML synchronizations to integrate Pure with their HR systems for Person data, or an IDP system for User data. Some customers choose to bulk import their Organisations and then manage them in Pure.

During your implementation project you will probably use a mixture of methods. For instance, you may want to do a one-time import of data from a legacy system that will afterwards be managed in Pure, and supplemented with data from online sources. These plans will develop out of your analysis of your current business processes; see Pure and your business processes.

Your Implementation Manager (IM) will help you decide which options are best for you. Whatever options you choose, you should decide how and where your data will be maintained once your implementation is finished.
