Dashboard: Manage widgetsDashboard: Manage widgets

Depending on your version of Pure and the modules available at your institution, you may not have access to the full widget/dashboard functionality.

Widgets are a quick way to get an overview of a specific set of data from Pure. They present this information as a small graphic or piece of text.

Widgets are shown on your Dashboard tab in the main Pure workspace.

TIP: You can also view a report that a widget is based on. While on a dashboard, click the gear symbol on a widget to see its settings, then click Use in Report module

Common widgets are:

  • Top 10 cited researchers
  • Top 10 most-cited research outputs
  • Activity types by year etc.

Widgets show their information in real time, and they offer the option of drilling down into the underlying data.

Adding widgets to dashboard

To add a widget, go to the Dashboard tab of the main Pure workspace, and press Add widget.

The widget selector window is opened. Follow the prompts to select the widget you want.

Some widgets are available by default, others represent any Research Performance Indicators that you have created. Click New widget to open a wizard to define a new widget.

Selecting a widget will present a preview of it, showing real time data. If no data matches the widget's configuration, the preview will state: "The widget is empty".

Example of widget: Research performance indicators widgets.
Three widgets added on the dashboard.

Re-arranging the dashboard layout

Widgets are as default placed from left to right. Use the mouse to drag them across the dashboard to re-arrange their position. You can also configure the overall layout of the Dashboard. See Dashboard: Manage dashboard

Manage widgets

Each widget has some icons available in the top of them, when hovering the mouse above each. They will vary depending on the type of widget. Some are fixed widgets which can not be modified. Below is a table defining each icon.

Icon Definition

Delete the widget from dashboard.

For some widgets, use the widget settings to remove the widget instead.

Export widget settings to a report definition.

This can be used to build a "real" report based on the widget settings.

Edit widget settings.

This can be used to change layout, for example from a table to a graph or to list a "Top 10" instead of default listing. These options vary depending on the type of widget.

Re-configure widget template.

This can be used to modify the default behavior of the widget, e.g. to add filters or count something else etc.

Expand widget to full screen. Click the same icon to minimize the widget again.

Click to get a description of the widget. The description can be edited from the widget template.
