Logical Rules for Available UpdatesLogical Rules for Available Updates

This page describes Property logic and behavior rules for ‘Available updates from online sources’

When enabling “Available Update” functionality on either Research Output or Dataset, you can define a set of logical rules that determine how Pure handles updates to the metadata fields. This page describes the different options

By default, any available updates are highlighted in the Research output / Dataset editor window > Available updates tab. The user must manually select/merge the preferred option(s) and save any changes.

You can add an 'if-this-then-that' rule that automatically performs an action for the combination of metadata field and online source. The available actions are:

Automatically accept when blank

If the metadata field is empty, the new value is automatically applied and the user does not see options to manually select/merge values. If the metadata was provided, the user can manually select/merge values.
Note: Multi-value fields, e.g. 'Publication statuses' or 'Dates', are evaluated as a single unit (empty/non-empty).

Automatically accept and overwrite

The current metadata field value is overwritten with the new value. The user does not see options to manually select/merge values. See note regarding overwrite cases.

Ignore if only property

If no other metadata field has changed on this Research output or Dataset, the change is not applied and user is not prompted to review the new value for this field until other fields also require review.

Ignore always

No updates are applied to this metadata field.

Note: Field level overwrite logic

When a field is overwritten, all current information in the affected field is replaced. See below for exceptions.

Publication statuses and dates

'Publication status' field: The publication status information can only be overwritten or added, but is never deleted. If additionals statuses (not mentioned in import source) are available in Pure, they will always be preserved.

Electronic version(s) of this work

Only DOI information is overwritten.
