Last on-premises feature release of Pure in February 2026 (5.35.0)
As announced at the Pure Conference 2023, the last on-premises feature release for Pure will be in February 2026 with version 5.35.0 (Ref1).
To receive new features for Pure after this date, your institution will need to migrate to a hosted solution managed by the Elsevier Pure team. The process for migrating to a cloud solution is briefly covered in (Ref1) with more details available in (Ref2, Ref3).
See 5.29.0 Release notes.

End of support for SQL Server 2008 and 2012
From version 5.15 we will no longer support Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2012 as both no longer have mainstream support from Microsoft.
End of support for Internet Explorer 11
From 5.15.0 (June 2019), Pure will no longer support Internet Explorer 11. This does NOT mean that Pure is not working in IE 11, but we will no longer test against these browsers, and we will not fix bugs specifically related to this browser. Removing support for Internet Explorer in Pure 5.15.0 enables the team to focus even more time on delivering great user experiences that run smoothly in modern browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
New Java 1.8 Update version requirement
As of version 5.13 (released October 2018) Pure requires Java version 1.8.0_162 or higher, which is a new requirement compared to the old recommendation of Java version 1.8.0_144. The new requirement is important for customers using Funding Discovery.
End of support for Tomcat 8.0.x
As of version 5.12 (released June 2018) we will no longer support Tomcat 8.0.x, as that version will be End of life on June 30th 2018 (https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-80-eol.html)
End of support for Internet Explorer 9 and 10
From Pure 5.6.0 (released June 2016) Pure will no longer support Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10. This does NOT mean that Pure is not working in IE 9 or IE 10, but we will no longer test against these browsers, and we will not fix bug specifically related to these two browsers. If you are using Internet Explorer, you should therefore upgrade your browser to the latest version of Internet Explorer in order to get the best experience with Pure.
Hereby, we are following the line from Microsoft whom ended this support on January 12 (see e.g., https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/End-of-IE-support)
End of support for SQL Server 2005
As of version 5.7/4.26 of Pure, which will be released in October 2016, Pure will no longer support SQL Server 2005 for the Pure database.

End of support for DSpace 1.8.x or earlier
From version 5.6/4.25 (June 2016) of Pure, support for DSpace 1.8.x and earlier will be deprecated. The functionality will still work and be supported, but existing customers are strongly advised to migrate to more recent versions of DSpace. All new customers will need a more recent DSpace version.
From version 5.8/4.27 of Pure (February 2017), Pure will no longer support and bug fix the integration to DSpace versions 1.8.x or earlier.
Our decision to do this is to better align with the versions that are supported from the DSpace community as well as keeping the number of supported releases we need to test and maintain at a reasonable level.
The DSpace Committers Group officially ended support of 1.8.x as of January 2015 (see https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Releases for details, and https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Software+Support+Policy for the groups established support policy).
In future versions of Pure, we will support integration to Dspace versions two years after The DSpace Committers Group end their support, which should provide sufficient time to plan and execute an upgrade of DSpace. For example, support for DSpace 3.x integrations in Pure will end in February 2018.
For customers wishing to migrate to more recent releases of DSpace, please check Supported platforms. From Pure release 5.6, support for DSpace 5.x will be added.
End of support for Equella
From version 5.6/4.25 (June 2016) of Pure, support for Equella will be removed from the list of officially supported repositories. Existing customers will continue to receive support for the currently supported Equella version, but we will not implement integration to more recent versions of Equella.
End of support for Internet Explorer 8
As of version 5.3/4.22 of Pure (released June 2015), Pure will no longer support IE8.
