The data story part of the report workspace, is very useful for gaining insights into your data, where you're using the different visualisations can dig into the data, and see your data in new ways. 

How about spending a bit of time, creating a huge data set on key elements of your data, perhaps narrowed down to current year. Then navigate to the data story and "play" with these elements. Adding different dimensions and measures to the different visualisations. Many interesting stories can be found, just playing around

Notice you can always same the original "data set" and come back to this at a later point to look for new stories to tell
