How Can We Help?
Difference Between User Supporter and Trusted UserDifference Between User Supporter and Trusted User
What
A Personal User can be supported in two different ways: from a centrally managed approach using the roles under the ‘User Support’ tab, or from an individual approach, known as the Trusted User. The difference will be explained here.
How
User Supporter:
- This is a tab with dedicated roles that can be added to any User, typically from a local support unit or library staff.
- The User must be configured to have all the same roles under the ‘User Support’ tab (and not the ‘Roles’ tab) as those of the User(s) who need(s) support. This includes Personal Users as well.
- When this is in place the Supporter User can switch to any Users with a matching set of roles.
- If the Supporter User needs to switch to all users, then the 'Administrator' role can be used.
Trusted User:
- This is a relationship between one specific User and a trusted proxy. You can allow another Pure User to manage information in Pure on your behalf by adding them as Trusted User. You do this by going into your username in the top right corner and selecting ‘Trusted user’.
- A Trusted User can assume control of your user account and perform all of the tasks that you can in Pure, with the exception of taking control of other User accounts where you are yourself a Trusted User.
- Trusted Users are typically used to cover vacation or sabbatical periods.
- Remember to remove the Trusted User when they are no longer needed.
All actions by User supporter or Trusted users are logged in audit.
Detailed examples:
If Person A is a Trusted User for Person B, and Person B is only a Personal User, then when Person A switches User to Person B they will have the same abilities/rights as Person B. This means that if the person is only a Personal User, then it will not be possible to edit Research Outputs e.g. add or remove an author. If Person B is already an author of the Research Output, then Person A can disclaim content, and Person A can also create new content on Person B's behalf with Person B as an author.
The same goes for if you switch to a user (Person C) that only has the role ‘Editor of Research Output’ for some specific organisations. When switching user to this Person C, you will only be able to do what they can do. This means you will not be able to add that Person as an author, since they are not a Personal User with a Person in Pure, but you can act as an Editor of Research Output for those organisations.
With regard to getting notifications, this depends on what actions are taken. For example, when switching user to Person A, removing Person B from a Research Output will result in Person B receiving an email about this.
If Person A switches to Person B and adds a new Research Output with Person B as an author, then Person B will not receive any notifications, but will of course see the new output when logging in.
When Person A switches to Person B and disclaims an article, then Person B will be able to see that ‘Person B’ has asked to be removed from that article, but will not get a notification.
In summary, then, Person B will really only get the same notifications as they would normally when doing things on their own.
