Deprecation of Data Monitor
As previously announced, Data Monitor is being deprecated. Consequently, with the release of version 5.33.0, it will no longer be possible to import content from this source.
For Clients Who Are Automatically Upgraded:
It is crucial that all content you wish to import is stored in Pure before upgrading to version 5.33.0. This includes any content that is currently stored as import candidates.
For Clients Who Upgrade Pure Themselves:
Starting June 30, 2025, importing from Data Monitor will no longer be supported. Please ensure that all content you wish to import is stored in Pure before this date, including any content stored as import candidates.
More information can be found in this "Transitioning from Data Monitor to DataCite Integration" Pure & Simple webinar recording
Reminder: Upcoming deprecations previously announced
Potential all clients:
- DB sync will be retired in June 2026 (5.36.0). We will continue to fully support sync into Pure through XML and the API. (Ref1)

Pure Core: Administration
Author collaboration on Datasets
When creating or modifying dataset records in Pure, Author collaborations can now be added, providing contributor lists that are more manageable, and attributable to known author collaborations. A generic author collaboration entity ("Generic collaboration") has also been introduced to serve as a placeholder if no known author collaboration. The author collaborations on datasets are also available for reporting purposes and will be shown on the Pure Portal.

This addition to the Dataset content type is in preparation to support author collaborations from dataset import sources (5.33.1) such as DataCite. Learn more about Author Collaborations.
User Interface changes
New editing experience
We’ve been listening to user feedback and have worked hard to refine the editing experience—balancing usability, performance, and flexibility to better support your workflows.
Our goal is to create a more enjoyable and efficient editing experience in Pure. With a range of visual enhancements and quality-of-life improvements, users can now work faster, more accurately, and with fewer errors.
Highlights of the updated editing experience include:
- Refreshed visuals that improve clarity and better differentiation between sections.
- New and improved versions of several form elements, including input fields, dropdowns, and lists.
- Extensive accessibility upgrades, including keyboard navigation for tabbing through fields and completing the form without a mouse.
- In-page navigation for quick access to different sections of the form.
- Relocated features such as Comments, History, and System Info for improved usability.
- Updated translations, allowing multiple languages to be shown simultaneously (when applicable).
- New quality-of-life features, including drag-and-drop functionality in lists and undo/redo actions.
Left Side Menu
We’re also excited to introduce an update to the widely used navigation menu on the left side of the Pure interface. This update brings more flexibility—particularly in how custom filters are handled—along with several improvements that make day-to-day navigation smoother.
- A modernised visual design.
- Ability to keep multiple groups open at once.
- No page reloads when opening a group.
- Clear separation of system filters and custom filters in the Editor and Master Data tabs.
- Reordered a few of the menu items for better structure in the Administrator tab.
To see more details on these features and how to activate them, go to User interface changes.
DataCite integration
We are excited to announce the integration of DataCite as a new import source in Pure. This integration provides direct access to authoritative and standardized dataset metadata, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records. By automating data ingestion from DataCite, we reduce manual effort and improve data quality. DataCite can be enabled free of charge. For non-hosted clients see comment below
To read more about what the integration offers and how to enable the integration, please visit DataCite
Migration of Data
When updating to 5.33.0 a migration job will run that will move data for clients that previously had Data Monitor enabled
- DOI will be copied and also added to "Source ID": This to make sure we don't import to many duplicates on Dataset that originated from DataCite but was added via the Data Monitor integration
- Data Monitor keywords will be moved to a free-text keyword field
Improvements to Person based automated search in 5.33.1
Close to release of 5.33.0, we noticed that Automated search on Persons found too many false positive matches. Unfortunately, we did not have time to put a fix in place before release. A fix has been put in place for 5.33.1.
If you setup an automated search on Persons in 5.33.0, we will rerun the job that finds candidates, when upgrading to 5.33.1. Researchers will experience that they will have less candidates, but more accurate candidates to import.
Alternatively, recommendation would be to wait with enabling automated search on Person until 5.33.1 has been enabled. More about DataCite: Setup automated search on person level
Award Management Module
Contract Content Type
In the 5.33.0 release we have made a few updates to the contract content type to update the user interface (in line with Pure editor improvements) and to allow editors to create new external organisations for use as contracting parties
Allow users with edit access to create new external organisations from within the editor
It is now possible for users with edit permissions on contract records to create new external organisations from within the contracting parties section of the editor. Users must add a name and organisation type as mandatory prior to saving.
Milestone Overview Screen
The milestone overview screen has been updated to include a new sort order option that allows users to sort by created or modified date in addition to the existing sort by title (a→z)
In addition to the sort option, we have also extended the detail shown in the title box to also include the description information added to the milestone record.
Storage Usage Included in License Overview
For all hosted customers, you can now view your total storage consumption for full-text files across your content.
This information is available under the Licensing menu item within the Administrator tab.

For more details go to License Count
Reporting
Sunsetting of the classic reporting module
With this release, the initial phase of sunsetting the classic reporting module has begun. Starting with this release, it’s no longer possible to create new reports within the classic reporting module. Existing reports will continue to function, as will any scheduled reports. Furthermore, you cannot create new reports from dashboard widgets. Read more about the sunsetting and the different phases at Sunsetting classic reporting.
