How Can We Help?
Updating Content With the Bulk ImportUpdating Content With the Bulk Import
What
You are looking for a way to (bulk) update content and wonder whether Bulk import can be used?
How
Updating content with the bulk import is ONLY available for the Research output content type.
We strongly recommend testing this in a staging/ test environment first before implementing in a production server.
We also recommend that you use configurable sync. jobs or master list import instead of using the bulk import for updating content - the reason being that everything has to be in the XML file for each upload, as you can accidentally delete data in pure when bulk importing if there is data missing in the XML file. Sync jobs, on the other hand, can be configured to avoid deleting data in Pure if data is missing/removed from source/xml.
When using the bulk import, when you include XML with updates, the bulk import will give you the below options at the verify stage before proceeding to the final import.
Toggle ON the "update existing publications" option if you would like the import to update fields that have been identified as having changed (note this setting only applies to previously bulk imported content and fields that have not been modified by a user).
Additional options include the following (the descriptions below are also noted on each setting directly in Pure under each option):
- Allow Change of publication template: Enables changing the template of a publication when in update mode. When changing template, all fields will be rewritten based on the data in the XML. Dependencies related to the content will be kept.
- Allow update of non- imported content: Enabling this feature allows the wizard to match content not imported by the wizard. It uses the "id" attribute of the publication to search broadly in Pure for matching publication, e.g. UUID.
- Allow update of user-modified changes: Enabling this setting allows the wizard to update fields that have been changed by users. CAUTION: THIS WILL OVERRIDE ANY CHANGES MADE BY USERS AND REPLACE THEM WITH THE DATA IN THE XML.
