Switching the SDGs job to the one based on API-based classifierSwitching the SDGs job to the one based on API-based classifier

What

On 5.29.0 or newer versions of Pure, for adding Sustainable Development Goals (SDG keywords) to Elsevier-hosted Pure, Pure administrators can choose between using an API-based classifier that uses the latest Elsevier and Time Higher Education (THE) queries, or the legacy in-product classifier that classifies content based on the 2019 queries.

How / Why

To use the API-based classifier for adding SDG keywords, you need to enable and configure the External Management Of Keywords Reflecting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) job.

The classifier API requires that content be sent to Elsevier for classification. The content will not be stored and will not be used for any purpose other than to classify the content according to SDG queries. The use of the classifier API can be disabled at any time.

If your Pure is already using the legacy classifier (i.e. have Management of Keywords Reflecting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) job on Administrator > Jobs > Cronjob scheduling), you can switch from the legacy to the API-based classifier (i.e. set up the  External Management Of Keywords Reflecting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) job). Moreover, it is not recommended to use both classifiers at the same time, as each classifier will override the other’s results. The two jobs cannot be scheduled to run at the same time and attempting to do so will return a fatal error.

Below is the Step-by-step guide to switch to the new SGD job - in short, you will remove the current job and start the new one.

  1. Remove the current Management of Keywords Reflecting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) job from the Cronjob schedule (by opening the job page on Cronjob scheduling > Change schedule > Remove from schedule)
  2. Search for the new External Management Of Keywords Reflecting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) job via "Create new job" on the top right of the Cron job scheduling screen (Admin > Jobs > Cron job scheduling)
  3. Configure the job details and schedule (probably in the same way as the current job), and click Save so that the job is scheduled.

Note: we recommend starting the External Management Of Keywords Reflecting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) job over a weekend as it can take up to 24 hours or longer for all content to be processed. It depends on the amount of content for the job to process.
