Request Google Re-IndexingRequest Google Re-Indexing

What

There might be some scenarios that require Google to reindex your site, for example:

  • When records (publications, projects, activities, etc.) are removed from Pure, they, of course, are no longer available in the Pure portal, but sometimes, those records can still be found in the list of Google results when running a search.
  • When records are added to Pure, and they are available on the Pure portal; however, Google does not retrieve the new records in their results.

How

Page not indexed:
If you suspect that a page has not been indexed by Google, you can verify this by doing a site: search in Google: * Write site: in the google search bar, followed by the full url of the page, no space between. Example: site:youtube.com

  • If Google provides you the page, the page has been indexed by Google, but may just not be in the top of your search results page, why you did not see it (interested in our Pure Portal SEO initiatives - visit this page).

Page not indexed or page not removed: * Request re-indexing through Google Search Console. You can request for Google to go re-index your portal. You will need to have an account at Google Search Console with your Portal.

  • Make sure your account has your Portals Google Analytics (GA) tracking ID registered in Google Search Console.
  • Submit a re-index request.
    • Log on to Google Search Console (opens in a new tab).
    • Choose a property.
    • Submit a URL from the website you want to get re-crawled.
    • Click the 'Request Indexing button'.
    • Regularly check the URL in the Inspection Tool.

Note: Please note that Google are sunsetting Google Universal Analytics by 1st of July 2023, replacing it with Google Analytics 4. Here is a guide on how to transition from Google UA to Google Analytics 4: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10759417?hl=en
