Open Access improvements and unification
Roles affected: All roles with the ability to create / edit / report on Research Output content
Feature purpose: Improvements to Open Access functionality stemming from customer feedback to 5.3.0 / 4.22.0 (see 5.3.0 / 4.22.0 Release notes)
Feature description:
- 'Public access to file' - a 'No value' option is now available for DOIs and Links
- 'Public access to file' - the description for this field has been updated to enable different descriptions for Files, and for DOIs and Links. Customers can edit the descriptions via Text resources, as desired (but please note the relationship between the 'Public access to file' state and the overall Open Access status, as per the Open Access : Logic for OA Flag document).
- The migration logic for DOIs and Links when upgrading to 5.3.3 / 4.22.3 or later has been updated to no longer look at the old 'Access option' field to determine the 'Public access to file' for DOIs and Links. See the updated description of the migration logic here.
- Customers who upgraded to 5.3.0 / 4.22.0 and wish to 'undo' some of the migration rules that were applied in that version can run the Reset to default values the 'Public access to file' and 'Document version' values for DOIs and Links single run job, which will move the 'Public access to file' for ALL DOIs and Links to 'Not set', and will move the 'Document version' for DOIs to 'Publisher PDF'.
- A new cron job Update 'Public access to file' values for DOIs and Links enables customers to change the 'Public access to file' type for DOIs and Links for selected content from one type to another. Further information is available below.
- The default values for DOIs when importing from an online source have been updated to 'No value' for 'Public access to file', and 'Publisher PDF' for 'Document version'.
- The relationship between 'Public access to file' type and Portal visibility of DOIs / Links has been removed. As the Public access to file field for DOIs and Links should reflect whether / how an individual is able to access the full text, not whether the DOI / Link is visible in the Portal, we have removed this relationship.
