How Can We Help?
Why Do My Scheduled Reports, Automated Search etc. Send Duplicate MailsWhy Do My Scheduled Reports, Automated Search etc. Send Duplicate Mails
What
Researchers are getting either duplicate mails, or similar mails but where the content of the mail is not the same.
This is usually because data has been copied to a test or development server that is also sending out mails.
Often both mails will point to the production server, so the mail from the test server will say one result, but when you click the link, you can not see the same result. This is because the mount points has not been updated on the test server.
How
- The easiest way to find the server that is sending out the mail is to check the full email headers. In here you can see the IP address of the server sending the mail.
- Use the IP address to track down the server that is sending the mail.
- Checking the header needs to be done by the person who got the original mail, you can not see this on a forwarded mail.
Note: On this link you can find descriptions for most types of email clients. - Once you know the name/IP of which server the mails, you can set up forced recipient on that server to avoid further mails.
Note: If on an Elsevier hosted server using the default mail server, it is not possible to identify the internal network source, as we use SES for outgoing mail by default for security reasons - so everything before SES receives it is thrown away.
