How Can We Help?
5.9.0 Upgrade Notes5.9.0 Upgrade Notes
Please follow the general Upgrading Pure documentation as well as the 5.9.0 (4.28.0) specific instructions below.
PARTICULAR ITEMS TO NOTE WITH THIS RELEASE
Web services
- This release includes a brand new and improved version of the Pure Web Service. The old version of the Pure Web Service will be available until and including version 5.12. While this gives you a whole year to adjust your current integrations to the new web service we highly recommend that you start this process sooner rather than later. Further details are available from the Release notes.
ORCID sunsetting v1.2 API
- ORCID plan to sunset their v1.2 API at the end of 2017. Therefore, if you currently integrate with ORCID, you are strongly encouraged to upgrade prior to the end of the year to ensure that your integration with ORCID continues to function. Further details are available from the Release notes.
SciVal, Scopus, and Embase integrations switching to HTTPS
- SciVal, Scopus, and Embase integrations will switch to an encrypted connection using HTTPS instead of using HTTP. This is reflected in Pure from version 5.8.3 on for SciVal and 5.6.0 for Scopus and Embase. Customers running on earlier versions may need to address this.. Further details are available from the 5.8.3 Release notes and 5.9.0 Release notes.
5.6 and 5.7 Upgrade notes
- If you are 'leapfrogging' 5.6.0 and / or 5.7.0, you should make sure to read the relevant upgrade notes as there are items highlighted that could impact on your upgrade to 5.9.0:
Embedding of Pure inside iframes on other domain
From 5.8, in order to prevent prevent Clickjacking, Pure can only be embedded in iframes running on the same domain as the Pure instance. For certain Intranet use cases, this new restriction may prevent access to Pure. If so, please contact Pure support via JIRA for a work-around.
Changes that affect Pure 5.9
Updated HTTPS connections : Pure Cloud Hosting customers
When the Pure Cloud Hosting servers are upgraded to Pure 5.9, some settings related to HTTPS connections for the setup will be updated, ensuring the maximum security possible with the browsers supported in Pure.
This should not affect any normal use of Pure as all supported browsers support it, but you may use Web Service clients that do not support it
The new settings are detailed at https://wiki.atira.dk/display/PUREDOCS/Pure+HTTPS+settings
Previously announced changes that affect Pure 5.9
Deprecation / End of support for DSpace 1.8.x or earlier from version 5.6 and forward
Since Pure 5.6.0 (released June 2016), support for DSpace 1.8.x and earlier has been deprecated. The functionality still works and will be supported, but customers are strongly advised to migrate to more recent versions of DSpace. All new customers will need a more recent DSpace version.
From version 5.8/4.27 of Pure (February 2017), Pure no longer supports and bug fixes the integration to DSpace versions 1.8.x or earlier.
Our decision to do this is to better align with the versions that are supported from the DSpace community as well as keeping the number of supported releases we need to test and maintain at a reasonable level.
The DSpace Committers Group officially ended support of 1.8.x as of January 2015 (see https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Releases for details, and https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Software+Support+Policy for the groups established support policy).
In future versions of Pure, we will support integration to DSpace versions two years after the DSpace Committers Group end their support, which should provide sufficient time to plan and execute an upgrade of DSpace. For example, support for DSpace 3.x integrations in Pure will end in February 2018.
For customers wishing to migrate to more recent releases of DSpace, please check https://pure.helpjuice.com/en_US/pure-core/supported-platforms for supported versions. Since Pure release 5.6, support for DSpace 5.x has been added
See the End of Support Announcements for Pure page for all end of support announcements.
