How Can We Help?
ORCID Integration - Public or Member API?ORCID Integration - Public or Member API?
This article will clarify the difference between a Public and Member API (Application Programming Interface) ORCID membership. One of them is needed for when you want to setup your ORCID integration in Pure.
There are two types available. Public API and Member API:
Public API
- Requires the ORCID to be authenticated for Personal users. See Setting Up the ORCID ID on a Person
- You can import content from ORCID either directly or using automated search. See ORCID (online source)
- You can use ORCID as source for Available updates. See Available updates from online sources
- More information about Public API: https://info.orcid.org/what-is-orcid/services/public-api/
Member API
Besides what is possible in Public API, you can also:
- Export your content to ORCID. More details are found in Configure ORCID Integration
- More about the Member API: https://info.orcid.org/register-a-client-application-production-member-api/
Request ORCID membership
- Requesting credentials for either the Membership API or Public API: please visit: https://orcid.org/content/register-client-application-0
- ORCID will provide you with the ORCID Client ID and an ORCID Client Secret to use in the Pure Integration.
- ORCID offers paid membership that allows access to the Member API - more info here: https://info.orcid.org/about-membership/
Remember to always check the current payment structure at www.orcid.org to determine whether you need a paid subscription or not. Elsevier is not able to monitor 3rd party vendors' payment structures, so we recommend you check with the vendor directly.
You can always add an ORCID to the Person profile, if you just need this to be showcased on a Pure portal.
