How Can We Help?
Master List “Modes”: A DefinitionMaster List “Modes”: A Definition
What
Working with Master list can be done in two modes: "Manage data outside Pure" and "Manage data inside Pure".
The options are typically available when you do your first ever master list import:
Below is a description of what it means and how to handle.
How
Manage data outside Pure
- Use this option if you expect to maintain data in another system, outside of Pure, and occasionally want to update (add, update, replace, etc.) the data in Pure with data from the other system.
- The data will not be editable in Pure and all updates need to come from a master list file.
- You can configure which data you will be updating (adding, updating, replacing, etc.) in Pure. A complete master list is required.
Note: When using XML this is referenced as ManagedInPure='false'
Manage data inside Pure
- Use this option if you expect to maintain data in Pure by adding and editing data directly in Pure (manually editing, NOT syncing) and occasionally expect to import data into Pure using the master list.
- Data imports will not replace existing data in Pure, but just add additional data.
- A complete master list is not required and fields will not be locked as with the above option.
Note: When using XML this is referenced as ManagedInPure='true'
You can switch modes during later runs, but this is not recommended. It is always recommended to pick one mode and continuously use that (this is to avoid un-syncing and re-syncing content and thereby overriding or potentially losing data).
