How Can We Help?
Cron job: Delete User MessagesCron job: Delete User Messages
What
You have observed that user messages (Notifications) are starting to pile up. For example some academics have messages found on their profile that are more than one year old, as illustrated here:
When a user accepts the message by clicking ‘Got it’ the message is not deleted but just removed from the Notifications. Such old messages can be deleted.
How
You can run the job “Delete User Messages” to clean this up.
Configuration of job
The job has a configuration that allows you to select between older than 1 to 5 years for deletion.
There is also a dry run option you can use to see how many messages you have and how many will be deleted with the selected year configuration.
When the job has been run it will log something like this:
Note that System messages are excluded from this clean up - there is another job named Delete Expired System Messages
