Open Science is a movement that aims to make scientific research transparent, reproducible, and accessible to all. To this purpose, it promotes a series of principles aimed at facilitating the dissemination and access to scientific knowledge, such as publishing open research (including publications, data, physical samples, protocols, and software) and open access publishing.
The Open Science movement believes that making scientific results available and easily accessible promotes collaboration and allows for a more rigorous peer-review of those results. In addition, research that is publicly funded should be made publicly available: that includes research data such as code, datasets, protocols, and research proposals.
In recent years, more and more governments and funding agencies have created policies and mandates concerning the dissemination of scientific research, leading to a need for researchers and institutions, among other things, to publish their results following the Open Access model. For researchers, this includes practices such as publishing findings in open access journals or open access repositories, or making related research data (e.g. datasets, software) easily discoverable and openly available. For institutions, this leads to a need to be able to easily monitor and report on their open access output.
As a research management system, Pure focuses on helping Institutions to easily manage the activities and output of their researchers. To this purpose, Pure provides a number of features aimed at facilitating the discovery and monitoring of your Institution's Open Access content; including import, showcasing and reporting. In this space, we have collected the documentation on Open Access-related options and functionalities available to you.
